Meta App Review: 5 Instagram Permissions Approved & Tech Provider Onboarding
Navigating Meta's strict developer compliance: how we overcame screencast rejections, secured 5 Instagram Business Login permissions, and completed WhatsApp Tech Provider onboarding.
1. The Challenge
Connecting a SaaS platform to Instagram and WhatsApp requires navigating Meta's App Review process. Sensitive scopes—such as direct message management, content publishing, comments, and analytics—face heavy manual scrutiny. In June 2026, our submission for content_publish, manage_comments, and manage_insights was rejected. The reviewer stated that the screencast video jumped directly to features in the dashboard, omitting the visible Instagram OAuth login and permission consent screen.
2. The Remediation & Strategy
Rather than submitting generic documentation, we completely rebuilt our review package with an audit-ready demonstration:
Uncut End-to-End Screencast
Re-recorded the demonstration as a single, continuous, uninterrupted video showing the user clicking 'Connect Instagram', the full Meta OAuth dialog, the granular permission consent screen, and the return redirect.
1:1 Timestamp-to-Text Mapping
Rewrote review descriptions so every written sentence in Meta's review portal corresponded to a specific visible action in the video recording.
Granular Product Demonstration
Demonstrated clear in-product utility for each individual permission within our business panel rather than generic mockups.
3. The Review Journey (Timeline & Flow)
From initial rejection to full approval and Tech Provider status:
Initial Submission
instagram_business_basic and instagram_business_manage_messages approved on first review.
June 2026 Rejection
3 permissions rejected: screencast skipped the Instagram OAuth login & consent dialog.
Remediation & Resubmission
Single continuous screencast recorded; review text mapped 1:1 to visible user actions.
Full Approval (31.08.2026)
All 5 permissions fully approved. Meta Business Verification & WhatsApp Tech Provider onboarding completed.
4. Meta App Review Screencast Checklist
Requirements that helped our resubmission pass:
Visible OAuth Login & Consent Dialog
Never start inside an already authenticated session. The video must show the user clicking the connect button and the Meta consent modal showing the exact permissions requested.
Single Uninterrupted Video Flow
Avoid jump cuts, video transitions, or time lapses. Our rejection came from a skipped login/consent step, so keep the whole flow in one take.
Explicit Feature Usage in the Product
Every requested permission must be demonstrated in an actual user-facing feature (e.g. publishing a post, replying to a comment, reading insights).
1:1 Text-to-Video Synchronization
The explanation text in Meta's Developer Portal should explicitly guide the reviewer: 'At 0:45 you will see how content_publish is used to post the scheduled update'.
